Internship Reflection:

During my internship with Jonathan Mahoney, I was his assistant. In other words, I was a teacher's assistant. Specifically, I worked for his 9th grade English class. Throughout the internship, Jonathan assigned me multiple assignments to grade. For each assignment I graded, I noted on a google sheet how long it took me. The work he gave me differed. Sometimes he would give me responses to grade. Other times I would have to grade essays or writing stories. While grading, I would have to use a rubric or he would tell me how to grade an assignment. In the rubric, I would grade assignments based on thoroughness. If the learners had followed the requirements for the rubric, I would give them a high grade. If they had some things missing, then they would get points taken off. Doing this allowed me to know what it felt like to grade assignments. Although there were many assignments, I pulled through and made sure to finish grading on the day it was due. However, there were some times where I was unable to because of personal events. For the assignments that were responses to videos, I graded on completion. After every video that he assigned, Jonathan would often assign questions to the learners. Some questions would be based on the learner's opinion. Others would need evidence from the videos. If the students had completed all the questions and used evidence to support their claims, then they would get a high grade. If the students did not use evidence or did not finish every question, they would get marked down for it. For the most part, this is what I did throughout the internship. All in all, Jonathan was a nice teacher. He always made sure to email me his assignments along with a rubric or description of how he wants me to grade them. After I graded his assignments, he would always thank me. Working with Jonathan was a great experience and I will certainly miss working with him.
